Sector notice 1 November 2016

Opens in a new window: Archive link

An update to the 2017 reporting requirements has been released today, 1 November. This update comes in response to the recent tabling of the Commonwealth Scholarships Guidelines (Research) 2017.

The guidelines give effect to new funding arrangements for research block grants which commence on 1 January 2017. More information about the arrangements is available on the department's webpages for the Opens in a new window: Research Support Program (RSP) and Opens in a new window: Research Training Program (RTP).

Data requirements have been updated to support the administration of these redesigned programs. Three new codes on existing elements will be added. Full coding notes for the relevant elements (487 and 490) are available on HEIMSHELP along with the change control document and a handy reporting guide.

A Commonwealth Higher Education Student Support Number (CHESSN) will also be required for all domestic RTP students from 2017. Reporting of CHESSNs for overseas RTP students is voluntary, but encouraged.
